The question you should be asking however is “How long will it take for SEO to start generating leads and sales?”

And the answer is…it depends,  and while that answer can be frustrating, it’s the truth.

What does it depend on?

It depends on how long your website has been around, how much SEO has been done on it previously, if the previous work was done correctly or is what someone has done in the past actually hurting your ranking ability, what shape the website is in, how much content is on it, its link profile, and many other SEO factors.

There ae no two websites that are starting from the same place, even if they’re in the same industry and competing for the same customers, that is why there is no simple cookie-cutter answer.

Many companies simply underestimate how much time and money it takes to be successful with SEO.

Many SEO firms will tell you that it takes 3 to 6 months to start seeing results.

That’s generally accurate, but bear in mind this is when you START seeing results, not like what your results will be with a properly designed SEO plan after 6 – 12 months, SEO results take time grow, there is no magic bullet our fast way of doing it.

To do SEO correctly it can take months for your SEO efforts to start showing significant improvements, and can certainly take that long to start showing a real ROI.


Simply because, many links don’t get their full value for three months, after all, Google wants to see that the links are here to stay. For the most part Google wants to see stability and longevity as they are good indicators of credibility which is one of the two things Google is trying to measure, Credibility and Relevance, which are both critical for good rankings.

Success by any standard rarely comes within the first 3 months, even with a healthy SEO budget.

We have seen companies get started the right way, but quit after 2 to 3 months and say “We just weren’t getting the results we needed to justify the cost.”

What this tells me is, they went into the exercise with unrealistic expectations, by not knowing what to expect.

If you can not afford to budget for 6 to 12 months of SEO, then you should not expect to be ranking towards the top of Page 1 of Google.

SEO is a long term marketing tactic that works incredibly well given the time it needs to start working, and WILL return a good ROI on your investment.

It should not be seen as a way to generate sales quickly.

Just a few months of SEO is, in many cases is no better, and you may just be throwing your money away if that is all you are willing to invest in your business.

However, if you make the proper investment in your business, and plan on being in it for the long haul, SEO is a marketing tactic with one of the best ROIs out there for your marketing dollar, bar none!
